The Ten Commandments

“God said to the people of Israel:

I am the Lord your God, the one who brought you out of Egypt where you were slaves.

Do not worship any god except me.

Do not make idols that look like anything in the sky or on earth or in the ocean under the earth. Don’t bow down and worship idols. I am the Lord your God, and I demand all your love. If you reject me, I will punish your families for three or four generations. But if you love me and obey my laws, I will be kind to your families for thousands of generations.

Do not misuse my name. I am the Lord your God, and I will punish anyone who misuses my name.

Remember that the Sabbath Day belongs to me. You have six days when you can do your work, 10 but the seventh day of each week belongs to me, your God. No one is to work on that day—not you, your children, your slaves, your animals, or the foreigners who live in your towns. 11 In six days I made the sky, the earth, the oceans, and everything in them, but on the seventh day I rested. That’s why I made the Sabbath a special day that belongs to me.

12 Respect your father and your mother, and you will live a long time in the land I am giving you.

13 Do not murder.

14 Be faithful in marriage.

15 Do not steal.

16 Do not tell lies about others.

17 Do not want anything that belongs to someone else. Don’t want anyone’s house, wife or husband, slaves, oxen, donkeys or anything else.” – Exodus 20:1-17 CEV

Types of Friends

There are many types of friends out there. Some are friendlier than others. A few are really not friends, but pretend to be. Others try to be a friend, but maybe it just doesn’t work out. Let’s talk about the different types of friends.

Just Around: These types of “friends” are really not friends, but just people that you see while you are at an activity. For example – A person you talk to who sets the scoreboard up at a small basketball game.

Acquaintances: These people you know by name (usually by someone introducing you to that person) and you really have only talked to them maybe once or twice. This person could volunteer to help you out with a problem, but more than likely you might just get advice from this type of friend. For example – A person who explains to you what is the best way to make a payment, without helping you make the payment.

Sort-of There: These types of friends you usually see at least once (maybe twice) a week. You talk to them occasionally. You know a little about them, and they know a little about you. You might even go on a trip as a group with that person.

There to Help: This type of friend is there to help you with different things. You may need your lawn mowed, and you cannot get it done yourself because you have a sprained ankle. This person would help you out with the lawn mowing for the two weeks you are hurt. For example – next-door neighbor

Beside You: This type of friend is right next to you whenever you need them. Just lost your house due to a fire? This friend will let you stay with them and help you look for a new house, help you buy a new house, help you buy things for the new house (because all of the previous belongings were burned up), etc. For example – family or someone at your church

WARNING!!!

PRETEND FRIENDS: Look out for this type of people. These people WILL pretend to be your friends, but they are really looking for a way that you can serve their purpose. They hurt you, pretend to be sorry, and then hurt you again (without giving a care). You have money? They will try to get it from you. Have fame? They will try to get into the spotlight. Have great abilities? They will abuse your abilities for their own purpose. You might even help them hurt someone else without you ever knowing much less meaning to, but the one thing they all want from you no matter what is: YOUR TIME. They will sit down with you and explain (the amount of time they take to explain their idea to you could be five minutes or five hours) why you should do it their way, but what they are really explaining to you is how you can make them money, famous, powerful, in a better position, etc.

The Bible warns people to not hang around with bad people, because they will influence you into doing the evil stuff they are already doing.

“Don’t fool yourselves. Bad friends will destroy you.” – 1 Corinthians 15:33 CEV

Remember to watch out who you are friends with!

Doing Good Works will not Get You to Heaven

I do believe that doing good works is good, but doing good works will not save anyone.

Someone could spend fifty years in the medical field, be good as what he or she does, and be helpful to people. Does this mean, even though the doctor knows a lot about the human body, medicines, illnesses, and has helped a lot of people, that the doctor can go to Heaven, just because he or she has done several good works throughout his or her life? Not at all.

The Bible says:

“We are unfit to worship you;
each of our good deeds
is merely a filthy rag.
We dry up like leaves;
our sins are storm winds
sweeping us away.” – Isaiah 64:6 CEV

Jesus Christ is the only way to the Father, and, of course, the only way to get to Heaven.

” ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life!’ Jesus answered. ‘Without me, no one can go to the Father.’ “ – John 14:6 CEV

Remember that doing good works is great. However good works will not get to you Heaven. Only accepting Jesus Christ as your savior will get you to Heaven.

Can You Lose your Salvation?

Have you heard the idea that someone can lose his or her salvation? Well, believe it or not, this belief is out there. I do not know when people started this idea of losing your salvation, but it is false.

If Jesus Christ gives us the free gift of salvation, then why would we ever think that He would suddenly take it away from those whom have accepted Jesus Christ to be their Savior? This does not make any sense.

In addition, if we could lose our salvation because of our sins, then why would Jesus have bothered to die on the cross for our sins, if we would still go to Hell because of our sins?

I will discuss some Bible verses people might use towards you to question or tell about losing your salvation.

“But if you don’t forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins.” – Matthew 6:15 CEV

This verse is not talking about losing your salvation if you do not forgive others.

You see, when you accept Jesus Christ as your Savior, God forgives your sins in the sense that He will not send you to Hell to pay the price for your sins. Jesus did that on the cross.

However, that does not mean that God will not hold you accountable for what you do on Earth (since being a Christian does not mean that you will not sin anymore).

The verse is saying that if you do not forgive other people for the wrongs they did towards you, then Jesus will not accept your earthly apology for your sins toward Him, even though you are saved from paying the ultimate price for your sins (going to Hell).

“Everyone will hate you because of me. But if you remain faithful until the end, you will be saved.” – Matthew 10:22 CEV

This verse is not talking about losing your salvation.

What this verse is saying is that people will persecute you because you love Jesus. In addition, if you remain faithful to Jesus and endure the hardships, then Jesus will one day end the persecution against you by taking you to Heaven with Him.

This verse might imply that Jesus might let you die earlier if you are faithful to Him, so you will not have to endure persecution for a long time.

Remember that accepting Jesus Christ as your Savior is what will get you to Heaven, not just merely following Jesus’ teachings.

“35 Be ready and keep your lamps burning 36 just like those servants who wait up for their master to return from a wedding feast. As soon as he comes and knocks, they open the door for him. 37 Servants are fortunate if their master finds them awake and ready when he comes! I promise you that he will get ready and have his servants sit down so he can serve them. 38 Those servants are really fortunate if their master finds them ready, even though he comes late at night or early in the morning. 39 You would surely not let a thief break into your home, if you knew when the thief was coming. 40 So always be ready! You don’t know when the Son of Man will come.

41 Peter asked Jesus, “Did you say this just for us or for everyone?”

42 The Lord answered:

Who are faithful and wise servants? Who are the ones the master will put in charge of giving the other servants their food supplies at the proper time? 43 Servants are fortunate if their master comes and finds them doing their job. 44 A servant who is always faithful will surely be put in charge of everything the master owns.

45 But suppose one of the servants thinks that the master won’t return until late. Suppose that servant starts beating all the other servants and eats and drinks and gets drunk. 46 If that happens, the master will come on a day and at a time when the servant least expects him. That servant will then be punished and thrown out with the servants who cannot be trusted.

47 If servants are not ready or willing to do what their master wants them to do, they will be beaten hard. 48 But servants who don’t know what their master wants them to do will not be beaten so hard for doing wrong. If God has been generous with you, he will expect you to serve him well. But if he has been more than generous, he will expect you to serve him even better.” – Luke 12:35-48 CEV

Is Jesus saying that we can lose our salvation if we are living evil lives? Not at all. Jesus is saying that you will be demeritted for the evil you did while you were on Earth. This is not losing your salvation. This is being punished for living evil lives, when you were supposed to be serving God while you were on the Earth.

“I keep my body under control and make it my slave, so I won’t lose out after telling the good news to others.” – 1 Corinthians 9:27 CEV

Is the writer saying that he will lose his salvation (“lose out”) if he does not tell people about Jesus Christ’s free gift of salvation? Nope. He is saying that he is doing his best at avoiding sin, so he will not ruin his testimony to unsaved people.

Now let us go over Bible verses that talk about eternal security (not losing your salvation).

“My Father gave them to me, and he is greater than all others. No one can snatch them from his hands,” – John 10:29 CEV

This verse means that nothing can make you lose your salvation.

“That’s why I am suffering now. But I am not ashamed! I know the one I have faith in, and I am sure that he can guard until the last day what he has trusted me with.” – 2 Timothy 1:12 CEV

Jesus makes sure that you do not lose your salvation.

“By his one sacrifice he has forever set free from sin the people he brings to God.” – Hebrews 10:14 CEV

You will never lose your salvation due to sin.

Praise God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is so good, and by raising Jesus from death, he has given us new life and a hope that lives on. God has something stored up for you in heaven, where it will never decay or be ruined or disappear.

You have faith in God, whose power will protect you until the last day. Then he will save you, just as he has always planned to do.” – 1 Peter 1:3-5 CEV

Jesus makes sure that you do not lose your salvation.

If you are someone who is worried about losing your salvation, remember that salvation is a one-time deal. Jesus does not have to save you again, again, and again. Remember Jesus is all-powerful.

“So always trust the Lord
because he is forever
our mighty rock.” – Isaiah 26:4 CEV
