Can You Lose your Salvation?

Have you heard the idea that someone can lose his or her salvation? Well, believe it or not, this belief is out there. I do not know when people started this idea of losing your salvation, but it is false.

If Jesus Christ gives us the free gift of salvation, then why would we ever think that He would suddenly take it away from those whom have accepted Jesus Christ to be their Savior? This does not make any sense.

In addition, if we could lose our salvation because of our sins, then why would Jesus have bothered to die on the cross for our sins, if we would still go to Hell because of our sins?

I will discuss some Bible verses people might use towards you to question or tell about losing your salvation.

“But if you don’t forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins.” – Matthew 6:15 CEV

This verse is not talking about losing your salvation if you do not forgive others.

You see, when you accept Jesus Christ as your Savior, God forgives your sins in the sense that He will not send you to Hell to pay the price for your sins. Jesus did that on the cross.

However, that does not mean that God will not hold you accountable for what you do on Earth (since being a Christian does not mean that you will not sin anymore).

The verse is saying that if you do not forgive other people for the wrongs they did towards you, then Jesus will not accept your earthly apology for your sins toward Him, even though you are saved from paying the ultimate price for your sins (going to Hell).

“Everyone will hate you because of me. But if you remain faithful until the end, you will be saved.” – Matthew 10:22 CEV

This verse is not talking about losing your salvation.

What this verse is saying is that people will persecute you because you love Jesus. In addition, if you remain faithful to Jesus and endure the hardships, then Jesus will one day end the persecution against you by taking you to Heaven with Him.

This verse might imply that Jesus might let you die earlier if you are faithful to Him, so you will not have to endure persecution for a long time.

Remember that accepting Jesus Christ as your Savior is what will get you to Heaven, not just merely following Jesus’ teachings.

“35 Be ready and keep your lamps burning 36 just like those servants who wait up for their master to return from a wedding feast. As soon as he comes and knocks, they open the door for him. 37 Servants are fortunate if their master finds them awake and ready when he comes! I promise you that he will get ready and have his servants sit down so he can serve them. 38 Those servants are really fortunate if their master finds them ready, even though he comes late at night or early in the morning. 39 You would surely not let a thief break into your home, if you knew when the thief was coming. 40 So always be ready! You don’t know when the Son of Man will come.

41 Peter asked Jesus, “Did you say this just for us or for everyone?”

42 The Lord answered:

Who are faithful and wise servants? Who are the ones the master will put in charge of giving the other servants their food supplies at the proper time? 43 Servants are fortunate if their master comes and finds them doing their job. 44 A servant who is always faithful will surely be put in charge of everything the master owns.

45 But suppose one of the servants thinks that the master won’t return until late. Suppose that servant starts beating all the other servants and eats and drinks and gets drunk. 46 If that happens, the master will come on a day and at a time when the servant least expects him. That servant will then be punished and thrown out with the servants who cannot be trusted.

47 If servants are not ready or willing to do what their master wants them to do, they will be beaten hard. 48 But servants who don’t know what their master wants them to do will not be beaten so hard for doing wrong. If God has been generous with you, he will expect you to serve him well. But if he has been more than generous, he will expect you to serve him even better.” – Luke 12:35-48 CEV

Is Jesus saying that we can lose our salvation if we are living evil lives? Not at all. Jesus is saying that you will be demeritted for the evil you did while you were on Earth. This is not losing your salvation. This is being punished for living evil lives, when you were supposed to be serving God while you were on the Earth.

“I keep my body under control and make it my slave, so I won’t lose out after telling the good news to others.” – 1 Corinthians 9:27 CEV

Is the writer saying that he will lose his salvation (“lose out”) if he does not tell people about Jesus Christ’s free gift of salvation? Nope. He is saying that he is doing his best at avoiding sin, so he will not ruin his testimony to unsaved people.

Now let us go over Bible verses that talk about eternal security (not losing your salvation).

“My Father gave them to me, and he is greater than all others. No one can snatch them from his hands,” – John 10:29 CEV

This verse means that nothing can make you lose your salvation.

“That’s why I am suffering now. But I am not ashamed! I know the one I have faith in, and I am sure that he can guard until the last day what he has trusted me with.” – 2 Timothy 1:12 CEV

Jesus makes sure that you do not lose your salvation.

“By his one sacrifice he has forever set free from sin the people he brings to God.” – Hebrews 10:14 CEV

You will never lose your salvation due to sin.

Praise God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is so good, and by raising Jesus from death, he has given us new life and a hope that lives on. God has something stored up for you in heaven, where it will never decay or be ruined or disappear.

You have faith in God, whose power will protect you until the last day. Then he will save you, just as he has always planned to do.” – 1 Peter 1:3-5 CEV

Jesus makes sure that you do not lose your salvation.

If you are someone who is worried about losing your salvation, remember that salvation is a one-time deal. Jesus does not have to save you again, again, and again. Remember Jesus is all-powerful.

“So always trust the Lord
because he is forever
our mighty rock.” – Isaiah 26:4 CEV

Man is not Naturally Good

There are people who say that man is naturally good, but his circumstances cause him to do evil things. This is not a correct belief.

First off, if man were naturally good, then why would he do evil, since he naturally does good?

Secondly, how would someone be able to even say that man (meaning everyone) is naturally good? Have the people who claim this studied every single human being on Earth?

The Bible says:

“But all of them are corrupt; no one does right.” – Psalm 14:3 CEV

“No one in this world always does right.” – Ecclesiastes 7:20 CEV

“No one is loyal to God; no one does right. Everyone is brutal and eager to deceive everyone else.” – Micah 7:2 CEV

God knows that there is no one on Earth that does right. That is why he sent his Son Jesus Christ to make a way to escape eternal punishment in Hell.

The Account of Creation

Day 1

“1 In the beginning God
created the heavens
    and the earth.
The earth was barren,
    with no form of life;
it was under a roaring ocean
    covered with darkness.
But the Spirit of God
    was moving over the water.

The First Day

God said, “I command light to shine!” And light started shining. God looked at the light and saw that it was good. He separated light from darkness and named the light “Day” and the darkness “Night.” Evening came and then morning—that was the first day.” – Genesis 1:1-5 CEV

Day and Night

Day 2

God said, “I command a dome to separate the water above it from the water below it.” And that’s what happened. God made the dome and named it “Sky.” Evening came and then morning—that was the second day.” – Genesis 1:6-8 CEV

Sky and Water

Day 3

God said, “I command the water under the sky to come together in one place, so there will be dry ground.” And that’s what happened. 10 God named the dry ground “Land,” and he named the water “Ocean.” God looked at what he had done and saw that it was good.

11 God said, “I command the earth to produce all kinds of plants, including fruit trees and grain.” And that’s what happened. 12 The earth produced all kinds of vegetation. God looked at what he had done, and it was good. 13 Evening came and then morning—that was the third day.” – Genesis 1:9-13 CEV

Day 4

14 God said, “I command lights to appear in the sky and to separate day from night and to show the time for seasons, special days, and years. 15 I command them to shine on the earth.” And that’s what happened. 16 God made two powerful lights, the brighter one to rule the day and the other to rule the night. He also made the stars. 17 Then God put these lights in the sky to shine on the earth, 18 to rule day and night, and to separate light from darkness. God looked at what he had done, and it was good. 19 Evening came and then morning—that was the fourth day.” – Genesis 1:14-19 CEV

Day 5

20 God said, “I command the ocean to be full of living creatures, and I command birds to fly above the earth.” 21 So God made the giant sea monsters and all the living creatures that swim in the ocean. He also made every kind of bird. God looked at what he had done, and it was good. 22 Then he gave the living creatures his blessing—he told the ocean creatures to live everywhere in the ocean and the birds to live everywhere on earth. 23 Evening came and then morning—that was the fifth day.” – Genesis 1:20-23 CEV

Day 6

24 God said, “I command the earth to give life to all kinds of tame animals, wild animals, and reptiles.” And that’s what happened. 25 God made every one of them. Then he looked at what he had done, and it was good.

26 God said, “Now we will make humans, and they will be like us. We will let them rule the fish, the birds, and all other living creatures.”

27 So God created humans to be like himself; he made men and women. 28 God gave them his blessing and said:

Have a lot of children! Fill the earth with people and bring it under your control. Rule over the fish in the ocean, the birds in the sky, and every animal on the earth.

29 I have provided all kinds of fruit and grain for you to eat. 30 And I have given the green plants as food for everything else that breathes. These will be food for animals, both wild and tame, and for birds.

31 God looked at what he had done. All of it was very good! Evening came and then morning—that was the sixth day.” – Genesis 1:24-31 CEV

No one has any excuse, whatsoever, for not believing in Jesus Christ. He shows Himself through His creation. No one can honestly deny this fact.

“God’s eternal power and character cannot be seen. But from the beginning of creation, God has shown what these are like by all he has made. That’s why those people don’t have any excuse.” – Romans 1:20 CEV

Jesus Christ is the Only Way to the Father

People for years have said that there are more than one way to get to Heaven. The fact is, the only way to get to God the Father (which, of course, will get you to Heaven) is by asking Jesus Christ to save you from your sins.

The Bible says: “I am the way, the truth, and the life!’ Jesus answered. ‘Without me, no one can go to the Father.” – John 14:6 – CEV

Jesus Christ loves you so much, that he died on the cross to take the punishment for your sins. All you have to do is accept His free gift of salvation.

If you are looking for a purpose in life, someone to love you, and eternal security, Jesus is the ONLY way to get any of those.

“God loved the people of this world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who has faith in him will have eternal life and never really die.” – John 3:16 – CEV

To have your sins forgiven and for God to come into your life and accept you into Heaven, you must confess with your mouth and really and truly believe in your heart that Jesus came to earth, died on a cross, and was raised to life on the third day.

“If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” – Romans 10:9 – CEV
